Frequently Asked Questions

Who provides law enforcement services?

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department, under contract with the City, provides law enforcement services. As the City’s Police Department, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department is responsible for providing patrol, 9-1-1 emergency response, investigation, and related support services (e.g., crime scene analysis, custody/jail operations, coroner functions, and missing person searches).

How do I report a crime?

For life-threatening emergencies or crimes in progress, please dial 9-1-1.

To report a crime that is not a life-threatening emergency or that has already occurred, please call the Orange County Sheriff ’s Department at (949) 770-6011 and a deputy will respond to your location. If you are no longer at the scene of the crime, please call from your home or another safe and comfortable location, as high call volumes may result in longer wait times. Visiting City Hall or an Orange County Sheriff’s Department facility will result in similar wait times, as deputies are not always immediately available on-site.

If you live in a residential community with private security, please report crimes to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and then consider doing the same to your private security service. Reporting crimes to private security is not a substitute for contacting law enforcement.

How do I obtain a copy of a crime, incident, traffic collision, or juvenile report?

For information on obtaining report copies, please contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Records Unit at (714) 834-6454 (Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.).
