September 21, 2020 – The City of Laguna Woods is pleased to announce its COVID-19 Home Electric Utility Subsidy Program to provide financial assistance to Laguna Woods households during this public health emergency. The COVID-19 Home Electric Utility Subsidy Program is made possible with the assistance of federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (“CARES Act”) funding.
Qualifying households are invited to apply to receive a subsidy payment for increased electric utility costs (monies paid to Southern California Edison) incurred between March 1, 2020 and August 31, 2020 as a result of complying with COVID-19-related public health measures (e.g., California Department of Public Health and Orange County Health Officer guidance advising older adults to remain at home).
Households will likely qualify to receive a subsidy payment if (1) they have lived at the same address since at least August 1, 2019 and (2) one or more household members were at least 65 years of age prior to August 1, 2020 and (3) the combined income of all household members for the 2019 calendar year was equal to or less than the following federal limits:
Applications for subsidy payments will be accepted beginning on September 21, 2020 through 5 p.m. on October 30, 2020, or until funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.
