Woods End Trailhead Reopens After Renovation

May 5, 2026 – The City of Laguna Woods’ Woods End Trailhead reopened on May 5, 2026, after having been closed for several months of renovation.

The Woods End Trailhead is part of a 10.6-acre property owned by the City of Laguna Woods and operated by OC Parks that provides hiking access to the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, including the nearby James Dilley Greenbelt Preserve and Barbara’s Lake. It is located at 24995 El Toro Road, Laguna Woods, CA 92637, just north of the intersection of El Toro Road and Aliso Creek Road.

The Laguna Woods City Council and representatives from Assemblymember Dixon’s Office, Senator Choi’s Office, OC Parks, and the Coastal Greenbelt Authority celebrated the City of Laguna Woods’ renovation of the Woods End Trailhead at a small gathering on May 5, 2026. The renovation was partially funded by California Proposition 68 and includes new monument signage, new facilities to manage stormwater runoff, and refreshed street-side fencing and landscaping. Four on-street parking spaces are provided.

The Woods End Trailhead property was purchased by the City of Laguna Woods in 2002 for open space preservation and wilderness park access. Prior to its purchase, private owners had contemplated constructing single-family homes on the property.
